Kids College Day 4

Thursday, July 1, 2010

My team teacher, Brooke Stephens, and I were very busy today. We did two major projects: clay sculptures and bookmaking. We started off the morning by learning how to use the subtractive method of working with clay, just as Michelangelo did when he carved away at his stone. The students were challenged to carve away their clay and to pinch and pull it to create shapes, rather than add anything to it. Finally, we also began to work on a fabric collage that will serve as a book cover for our visual journal. I was able to show them one of my handmade books.

You have the best classes! I wish I were close enough to be one of your students. :-)
