Running

Monday, January 27, 2014

Today I hit a milestone in my running : I ran 11 miles without stopping to walk. It was so beautiful outside today and even though I had to fight a mental battle during the last couple of miles, I made it. Now for an inspirational read : Bart Yasso, My Life on the Run.

FiberArt in SC

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Enjoyed seeing my piece (the large nest sculpture) in the FiberArt 2013 International exhibition at the Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum - Myrtle Beach, SC. There were several incredible pieces in the show.  I loved the one created with woven steel tape by Sandra Jane Heard.

Ripley's

Awesome. Now I really, really want a human skull.

A Day to Paint

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

What a beautiful day it was today. It was a wonderful time to be outside slinging wax. These are some 12"x12" wax and paper experiments.

New Visual Journal

Monday, January 20, 2014

I just finished binding this journal and I love the way it feels to hold it. The cover is from a Bible that dates back to the early 1900's. I used all of the pages for other things and saved the cover hoping to build a new book. The pages are all engineering blue prints of some sort . I bought a whole roll of them in Raleigh last year. It's about 8"x 11" with Coptic binding in a green waxed linen thread. I think I'll be keeping this one all to myself.

Binding

Saturday, January 18, 2014

I've just started the hand binding of a sculptural book. This is going to take awhile but it will be well worth the effort.

Got Milk??

Friday, January 17, 2014

Design class tonight. We used milk as a medium to paint with. It goes on invisible and appears when ironed. The paper burns a little where the milk is and reveals the design. Very cool.

Oh Deer...

Thursday, January 16, 2014

So I know this is a little gross to look at now but with a little TLC it will be very cool. I picked this deer up as I was driving from Fayetteville to Leland this morning. This antlers have been removed already but that allows me to take some creative liberties during the rearticulation. It's soaking now so stay tuned for a progress report in the near future.

Sally

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

I had a wonderful time catching up with my ECU artist friend Sally today in my studio. We talked, waxed, and talked some more.

Milk Paint

Monday, January 13, 2014

I really like the look I can get with my new milk paints. I am making some book covers for a project I'm working on. I layered crumpled paper over my wooden cut outs then added multiple layers of the milk paint. Sanded and waxed, they look just like I was hoping for.
