Gathering of the Elders was the starting point for Mountain to Mouth 2018. This Ceremony paid respect to the land upon which we walked, to Wadawurrung Elders past and present, and to all Australian ancestors. The Gathering of the Elders signifies that which sustains us, both as we walked from the mountain to the river mouth and also throughout our daily lives. Central to this ceremony was the unveiling of Canoe, the ephemeral lead artwork, which lead walkers along the 50 mile journey of the contemporary Songline.
For this ceremony, we stood in silence, taking time to acknowledge the land, where we came from and where we will travel to from here.
