Silk Painting
Wednesday, November 11, 2009
This is one of the silk paintings that I recently finished. It was my second attempt at this technique so I'm just getting my feet wet, but overall, I'm happy with the result. It's a gestural sketch of the interior of a cathedral I visited in Italy.
It's all one color of MX dye: nickel, but since nickel is made up of more than one color, it seperates and that's how I was able to get all the variation. I also soaked the silk in coffee to give it an aged look and tone down the white lines created by the resist I used.
