Kadir Nelson
Thursday, January 22, 2015
Kadir Nelson was at the Arts Council tonight signing books and re-introducing himself to the community. Illustrations from Nelson's book WE ARE THE SHIP: The Story of Negro League Baseball appeared in the Arts Council galleries in 2011. Illustrations from six of his other award-winning books are on display in the Arts Council now in the "Words and Pictures" exhibition.
Kadir is seen talking with FSU professor Carole Boston Weatherford, author of the Caldecott Honor Medal recipient children's book Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom. The two collaborated on the book.

A Day
Monday, January 12, 2015
Oh boy what a day I've had! I got a good P90X workout in this morning and then started my second semester at Methodist University in the Forensic Science program and I started my new job in the Veteran's Affairs office on campus. It poured all day so now I'm snuggled up with my pups and a hot cup of tea. I have a few minutes to relax before I head to Girl's Night. I'm not convinced that anything will come of these forensic classes but they are pretty interesting - medicolegal death investigation, crime scene reconstruction, etc. if nothing else I'm looking forward to seeing how it will inform my artwork.

An honor to have been invited to be a part of this. Now I'm home and exhausted but full of ideas and lists of books to read and Ted Talks to listen to.
