Morning Run

So nice to watch the sun come up at the beach on my run around the Wrightsville Beach loop. It was about 32 degrees out but worth going out for the view from the pier.
Collagraphs
Friday, March 21, 2014
Today was another glorious day to be outside and in the studio. My friend MJ loaned me her printing press to make some collagraph prints. My goal was to print some images onto silk organza in order to incorporate the prints into future encaustic paintings. I created the plate using pieces of cut fabric. I love the way the patterned surface of the fabric is evident in the print. Here's a few pics of the plate and the final result on silk. Worked out great ad so I did several prints on various hand dyed silks.
Fossil Dig
Monday, March 10, 2014
Today was glorious! We drove to Aurora, NC and explored the earth's past at the "Pit of the Pungo", a large fossil pile filled with Miocene age fossils. We found lots of sharks teeth, a dolphin tooth, some coral, phosphate chunks, and even a shark vertebrae. Then we looked around in the Aurora Fossil Museum. WOW! Very interesting fossils and skeletal items.
