Building up layers of fabric and wax, then scraping back the layers. I love encaustic painting!

New Studio Toys

Today I hit it big at the thrift store! I found a big heat skillet and a flat iron. $14 total. The skillet was from Chili's meant for making fajitas so it has an awesome side pot that I'm putting plain wax it. The lid keeps it from getting drops of pigmented wax in it. The other pic is of all the new colors I made today by mixing oil paints into the wax/resin cakes I made yesterday.

Today

Wow,this has been a very long day in the studio. Among other things, I started making some encaustic medium. The "cakes" are made of resin and wax. A pound of wax plus 2.5 ounces of resin yields about 10 cakes. Tomorrow I'm going add pigments to some. As for tonight though, I'm just going to set back and enjoy the beauty of my little stacks in their shades of light, medium, and dark purity.
